Cesafinews | Antique child development schools had 10,000 people sign up | SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – About 10,000 kids between the ages of two and four are registered in Antique’s 668 Child Development Centers. The goal of these centers is to help kids learn social and emotional skills.

Carla Jee Ann Cabigunda, who is in charge of the Early Childhood Care and Development program for the Antique Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, says that the centers are run by child development workers (CDWs) who have been trained to work with kids.

In an interview on Tuesday, Cabigunda said, “The CDWs act as surrogate mothers and teachers. They stimulate the children’s minds and brains and watch them play.”

The Barangay-Level Total Development and Protection of Children Act, or Republic Act 6972, says that every village must have a daycare center.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development gives them extra food to help them get the nutrients they need to grow.

“We ask parents to help their kids get a good start in life by making sure they go to class every day,” she said, adding that parents only had to pay the application fee and any other necessary fees. (via PNA)
