Visayas activates security control center for BSKE | Iloilo City (via PNA) A body that will oversee the security plan and other activities related to the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in Western Visayas was activated Tuesday at the regional headquarters of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) in Iloilo City alongside their coordinating meeting.
The Comelec, Armed Forces, and Philippine National Police make up the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC). This body enforces gun bans, offers exemptions, and provides security detail. A Wednesday interview with Comelec Regional Director for Western Visayas Atty. Dennis Ausan stated that that had been activated.
Ausan said the election period begins at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 28 and includes a firearms restriction.
It means carrying firearms, explosives, and bladed weapons without a CBFSC certificate is illegal.
Ausan said anyone who need to carry firearms or provide security detail can apply online.
The regional election officer said they would revive their security monitoring center to monitor election management activities.
Ausan said they also signed a marine security plan with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), which deploys election paraphernalia and occasionally returns to island barangays.
“We need efficient supply and personnel deployment. Thus, we completed our security plan yesterday, remarked Ausan.
Ausan stated they have no security issues since the certificate of candidacy filing begins on Aug. 28.
“We cannot even come up with the list of election watchlist areas (EWAs) because one of the perimeters of classifying a certain area as an EWA is intense political rivalry,” he stated.
Ausan asked anyone wishing to run in upcoming elections to prepare their certificates of candidacy (COCs) early because they predict a large influx on the first day of filing.
He suggested they have their COCs examined at their local Comelec office to avoid issues during the reporting period, Aug. 28–Sept. 1.
