Cesafinews | OVP anticipates planting 100,000 native trees in East Visayas by 2028 | TACLOBAN CITY – In Eastern Visayas, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) wants to plant 100,000 native trees by 2028 as part of a huge program to plant trees.

Richard De Jesus, assistant satellite lead of OVP Tacloban, said that they hoped to reach the goal with the help of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Education (DepEd), and local government units to the PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees Project of the OVP.

In a phone chat on Monday, De Jesus said that the OVP has already gotten a lot of people to help plant 11,000 seedlings in three places in Eastern Visayas.

This includes the 1,000 mangrove seedlings that were planted on June 15 in Catbalogan City, Samar; the 5,000 different seedlings that were planted on June 24 in Guirang village, Basey, Samar, on a two-hectare area; and the 5,000 different seedlings that were planted on August 27 in Malazarte village, Matag-ob, Leyte.

The DENR, the DepEd, and the OVP are all working together on the project, and the OVP is in charge of making sure it gets done.

This project was also done to help the National Greening Program of the government.

“As part of the project, about 20,000 seedlings will be put each year until 2028. This is part of Vice President Sara Duterte’s promise to plant one million seeds across the country as part of the PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees Project,” De Jesus said.

The DENR regional office in this area has asked volunteers to help the DENR make sure that the seedlings planted will grow and live by taking part in activities like maintenance and security after the planting.

Under the partnership, the OVP will help with logistics and provide resources, such as buying the seeds that will be needed to plant, care for, and protect the trees.

On the other hand, the DepEd will find good places to plant within school grounds, provide volunteers to help with planting, and teach students about the value of the NGP.

The DENR is supposed to help find good places to plant trees and the right kinds of trees to put there. It could also ask people’s groups or the community to help make seedlings and other planting materials, as well as to protect seedlings that are planted outside of the school. (via PNA)
