Cesafinews | Fishing competition in Borongan to promote local tourism | TACLOBAN CITY – To find additional fishing spots in the Pacific Ocean near Borongan City in Eastern Samar, a fishing competition was held there.

The two-day jigging tournament, which ended on Monday, according to the event’s organizer Carlos Mocose, “explored the city’s seas.”

“The discovery of fishing locations will significantly help not only the fishermen, but it will also contribute to the locality’s tourism, leading to a boost in its overall local economy,” said Mocose in a statement on Monday.

According to the event’s organizer, only individuals with sufficient financial means participated in the majority of the event because of expensive equipment and high petrol prices.

“They don’t face the Pacific Ocean in places like Ormoc or Baybay City in Leyte. Fish hunters are not drawn to the area’s shallow saltwater, Mocose continued.

The contest attracted at least 160 anglers and jiggers from various regions of the area.

The contest was separated into three events by the Borongan City Fishing Club: the shore casting competition, in which 15 teams registered for the most and greatest catch categories, the offshore jigging competition, in which six teams registered, and the boatman competition, in which 18 teams registered.

The weight of their catch will be used by the event organizers to select the winners.

East of Borongan City, the provincial capital of Eastern Samar, is the Philippine Sea, a portion of the enormous Pacific Ocean.

The inaugural Fun Borongan E-Sports League Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Tournament, which began on September 2, has more than 32 teams registered.

The competition was sponsored by the local government and included 17 teams from outside of Borongan.

They hail primarily from Eastern Samar province, specifically from Baybay City, Palo, Leyte, Tacloban City, Catbalogan City, and several more towns.

On the other hand, 15 teams are represented in Borongan City.

City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda urged the gamers to play the online game moderately so that it wouldn’t interfere with their everyday lives in his message.

The 32 teams will compete in a best-of-3, single-elimination format with one bracket. The semifinals and championship follow the same rules, with the latter using a single elimination, best-of-5 format.(via PNA)
